This one week workshop focused on lighting in public space, in the form of large scale installations of light, media facades, and other means of place-making which transform our cities into digital urban design. We briefly reviewed historically how light has shaped the landscape of our public environments, and how new technologies allow for the rapid upgrade we are seeing in urban areas. We designed a site-specific design for Köln International School of Design in the city of Cologne and used Colorkinetics lighting equipment and software for a temporary lighting installation. I also produced music which is synced to different parts of the light show.
